Item Unit of Measurement Configuration

SIMMS 2014 Inventory Management Software uses a multi-leveled and detailed Units of Measure feature. Individual stock items can have numerous units of measure assigned to them, and receipts of those items can utilize a default purchase unit of measure while concurrently using a different unit of measure in its sales transactions. This simple but robust functionality makes SIMMS’ Units of Measure feature the simplest and most versatile one available today in the inventory software market.

The multiple units assigned to each item can be committed when the item is created in the program. All units are based on the premise of ratios — a conversion factor, if you will — as in “12 eaches to the box”, “20 boxes to the case”, “6 cases to the crate”, “4 crates to the palette”, and so forth. When these multiple ratio units of measure are set up, an item may be purchased or sold in any of them.

For each separate item you stock, unique units and ratios can be assigned. Each item can be assigned a default unit of measure. The default unit is most often used for special sales, normal sales, normal purchases and/or standard usages. You can at any time, however, override any set default unit.

The unit of measure feature in SIMMS Inventory software provides the means to:

  • Buy in one unit of measure, stock in another unit of measure and sell in a third different unit of measure without having to worry about any of the calculations.
  • Define a Purchase unit of measure
  • Define a Standard unit of measure
  • Define a Sales unit of measure
  • Define unlimited units of measure such as "Each", "Case", "mm", "cm", "oz", etc.
  • Select the unit of measure you would like to sell an item in during a sale or when creating a purchase order and the conversion will automatically take place behind the scenes to reflect the unit of measure in which you normally stock the item
  • Use our simple unit factor field to assign the conversion factor between units of measure. For example, the assignment is as easy as selecting a meter and millimeter and assigning a 1000 conversion factor (1m = 1000mm) and assigning that conversion factor to a specific item, each item can have a unique conversion factor.

SIMMS Inventory Software introduces unit of measure features that provide robust functionality at a fraction of the cost of competing inventory control products.

  • Assign a purchasing unit of measurement and a different sales unit of measurement
