Track Your Gear with SIMMS

Working in conjunction with SIMMS Online, SIMMS’ Tool Crib software allows workers to check out and return tools and equipment using a simple-to-use web-based application and barcode reader.

Workers scan their ID Card badge to start the process and then scan the item barcode and/or item serial number of the item(s) they are using. The worker next confirms that the list matches their inventory and proceeds to then chooses whether they are checking out or returning inventory. Each and every time that item is “checked out” or “checked in” the transactions are recorded in your system, time-stamped, attributed to the user allowing you to see who performed the transactions, when and why.

With Tool Crib, you can:

• Enhance chain-of-custody tracking

• Increase visibility of tools and equipment status and location

• Improve productivity and employee efficiency by allowing tool crib attendants to focus on more important tasks

• Read multiple tool tags per transaction resulting in faster transactions

• Reduced tool crib labor costs

Using a comprehensive tool, location, serial number and employee database, coupled with a simple and accurate bar code based transaction system, Tool Crib software tracks the issue and return of assets to employees and contractors, and the transfer of assets between various warehouse, job-site and tool room locations even fleet vehicles. You can easily manage your tool and equipment inventory using scanner and bar code technology, enabling workers to quickly get and return the tools they require with or without a tool crib attendant while still keeping the employee accountable for them.

SIMMS’ Item Categories

When you use SIMMS you can employ the versatile feature of Categorization. In addition to categorizing stock into generic groups, users can take advantage of using sub-categorization to monitor inventory sales and transactions for the benefit of profit margins and/or pinpointing which items are not selling and conclude if any problems are contributing to that condition.

From their creation in your SIMMS inventory system, items begin to acquire historical records of acquisition, usage, repair and turnover. Using this cumulative data can keep users on top of accurate data that reveal the information needed to make fiscal and logical decisions needed to be made. Thus, the decision of items’ categorization should be given much consideration so that this data advantage can be exercised to optimum effectiveness.

Categorizing merchandise with SIMMS is both quick and easy, and when combined with SIMMS’ versatile and comprehensive reporting capabilities, you gain the edge not available in other inventory software packages. Management of your business can be much smoother and robust once categorization becomes one of your first decisions when you acquire SIMMS, optimizing your information and maximizing your profit margin.

SIMMS has added the ability to associate network paths, network files, and web addresses to items. Simply click a link, a path or a document, and the referenced item automatically opens. In addition, SIMMS’s Kit Schema window and transaction windows feature this same instant advantage as you monitor your sales and item management responsibilities.

An additional feature now in SIMMS is if you perform an enhanced search from the Item Manager window, and if the item you are searching for is a Miscellaneous Item, then when you retrieve the item, the “Type” field in the Item Manager automatically defaults to the correct type for the item retrieved (Miscellaneous Item). Also, if the item is a stock item, a stock item is automatically selected in the Item Manager.

Down To Brass Tax

The headache of total prices being charged within your stock-tracking system can beset all people within your organization. Some items are marked-up, some are discounted. Others are reduced because of bulk sales; some pieces are suddenly more difficult to find and more expensive to acquire. And finally, on top of everything else, there are the taxes — some items tax-free, others partially-taxable, and still others fully-taxable. SIMMS Inventory Management software coordinates all these complex combinations seamlessly into a comprehensive yet easy-to-use package.
